About me

    My name is Nelson, I'm a sophomore at UMD seeking a degree in Cybersecurity, one thing I’m interested in is traveling around the world, I have traveled to multiple places around the world such as Italy, Brazil, Spain, Japan, and China. Traveling is one of my interests because it allows me to expand my worldview and experience different cultures worldwide. One of the main things I do when I travel is eat foods that the locals would eat because I believe that the food that people consume in that country tells a story about their history and the way they lived and I would compare it with not only my own with other countries as well. The favorite place that I've traveled to is Italy because not only is the place beautiful, but it's rich in history as well, visiting the Colosseum was breathtaking taking and they had some of the best food I've had in my life as well.  Another thing I like to do when traveling is buying souvenirs because it helps me remember the trip and all the memories that I've made during the trip.

     Another one of my interests is music, I like to listen to music but I can’t play an instrument for the life of me, I find the music interesting because it's a universal language and each genre tells a story which I find interesting, another thing I find interesting about music is how helpful it is in everyday life when I'm stressed, I will just put on my earbuds and listen to songs that I like and then I will start feeling less stressed, music also helps me study because it keeps me focused on the task at hand and prevents me from procrastinating.  Another thing I find interesting about music is the way it creates communities among strangers, for example, you can go to a concert and meet people who have similar interests and create lifetime friends because of it.

    Another interest of mine is video games, I grew up playing video games and video games have been a vital part of my life because they offer an escape from reality when life gets a little too hard, video games are the reason why I'm looking for a tech degree. Video games have also helped me connect with friends thousands of miles apart and have helped create new friends that I still talk to this day. Another thing I find interesting about games is the endless stories that each game tells and the messages that each game is trying to convey, for example in one game you can be a student who has to go against God to save the world from being a robot looking for the meaning of life and everything in between which I find interesting.

    My media-related interests are video games, music, movies, and cartoons, some questions that I would like answered by the end of the semester are how does media bring everyone together? How does media affect people around the world? And is there such a thing as bad media?
